Comparison: the affordable high end

Composite of the official renders of the three phones, seen from the back and the front: the yellow Honor Magic 9 bearing the ARRI logo, the pink Vivo X500 with its round camera module and the Ice Blue Oppo Find X10E

This autumn 2026, Asian manufacturers have shown real ingenuity with their entry-level flagships. Long seen as mere cut-down versions, these models priced under CNY 5,500 (roughly €715) now inherit the innovations of last year’s flagships.

The Honor Magic 9, the standard Vivo X500 and the brand-new Oppo Find X10E perfectly embody this reshuffle. But behind the flattering promises, caution is still needed: between previous-generation chips, international release schedules and batteries that are sometimes cut outside China, PhoneDroid puts these three newcomers under the microscope.

Handling and display: pocket formats against large screens

Two very clear ergonomic approaches face off in this segment.

Honor Magic 9: the bright, rugged compact

Honor targets fans of compact phones with a 6.37-inch body that is easy to use one-handed. Its flat panel stands out with a record 10,000 nits of HDR peak brightness, while protecting your eyes with 3,840 Hz PWM dimming. Above all, the Magic 9 earns IP69K certification, guaranteeing resistance to high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.

Vivo X500 and Oppo Find X10E: smoothness and slimness

  • The standard Vivo X500 relies on a superb, highly accurate 144 Hz panel (ΔE ≈ 0.27) that dims down to 1 nit at hardware level. Its design revisits the retro look of the Vivo X90, with an off-centre camera disc sitting on a raised plateau.
  • The Oppo Find X10E makes a splash with its slimness: at 7.99 mm thick and 203 g, it is the lightest 6.59-inch model here and the most comfortable to hold for long sessions.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the Magic 9

Honor has chosen to carry over last year’s Qualcomm powerhouse. This positioning choice lets the Magic 9 keep top-tier graphics performance thanks to the Adreno 840, ideal for the most demanding games, while adding a dedicated AI key for notes and quick actions.

MediaTek: thermal balance at Vivo and Oppo

  • The Vivo X500 benefits from the maturity of the Dimensity 9600M running at 4.21 GHz. Its scheduling engine 3.0 pushes games up to 185 fps through neural frame generation and runs on-device AI models such as Gemini Nano 4.
  • The Oppo Find X10E uses the Dimensity 9500s peaking at 3.73 GHz. While it delivers a smooth everyday experience without overheating, it falls behind Honor’s Snapdragon in emulation or heavy 3D rendering sessions.

Honor Magic 9: ARRI cinema grading

Honor makes a big statement by giving its standard model a dual 200 MP camera co-developed with cinema giant ARRI. It offers LogC3 video recording for professional grading and a native 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Its 55 MP square front camera captures 4K video in portrait or landscape without physically rotating the phone.

Vivo X500: a “dual Pro” technology transfer

Vivo’s strategy is formidable: the standard X500 inherits the large 50 MP Sony LYTIA-828 main sensor (1/1.28 inch) from the previous X300 Pro, and the 64 MP Zeiss APO periscope telephoto from the brand-new X500 Pro. With CIPA 5.5 stabilisation on both cameras and ACES colour profile support, it outclasses the competition in low light.

Oppo Find X10E: the consistency of a triple 50 MP setup

The Find X10E drops the 200 MP periscope mentioned in rumours in favour of a more rational formula: three 50 MP sensors, including a stabilised 3x (73 mm) optical periscope zoom. Without Hasselblad processing and limited to 4K 60 fps, it delivers very natural, consistent shots without pushing up the price.

PhoneDroid’s take, model by model

  • Honor’s battery trap: the Magic 9’s 8,000 mAh is tempting, but remember the Magic 8 Pro: 7,200 mAh in China, yet 6,270 mAh on the global version we sell. A cut is therefore possible for the Magic 9 when it launches internationally.
  • Vivo X500: the global version keeps its 7,500 mAh: the X500 is expected in Europe, and its European version is already listed in the EU energy label register, but with a battery cut to 5,180 mAh rated capacity. The global version we sell keeps the Chinese version’s impressive 7,500 mAh fifth-generation silicon battery.
  • Oppo Find X10E: Oppo keeps the same capacity whatever the version (7,025 mAh). On the other hand, the Find X10E has not yet been certified in any international market; only the Find X10 and X10 Pro Max have been registered in Thailand.

Prices and Chinese subsidies

In China, the government subsidises tech purchases by automatically deducting CNY 500 from any smartphone sold under the CNY 6,000 threshold.

PhoneDroid’s final verdict

  • Choose the Honor Magic 9 if you want a compact format (6.37″), extreme IP69K certification, ARRI cinema video and the graphics power of the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
  • Choose the Vivo X500 for the best camera experience in this segment, thanks to the X300 Pro’s large Sony sensor and the Zeiss APO telephoto, with a 7,500 mAh battery that only the global version keeps.
  • Choose the Oppo Find X10E if slimness (7.99 mm) and lightness (203 g) on a 6.59-inch display are your top priorities, with a battery of more than 7,000 mAh.

We will follow the release of these three models outside China. In the meantime, browse our Honor, Vivo and Oppo smartphones in stock.
