Realme 17 Pro: Giant 10,000 mAh battery, ColorOS 17, and a camera U-turn in store

After spending several months prioritizing the entry-level segment through its C100 series, Realme is gearing up to relaunch its well-known numbered lineup. Restructured alongside OnePlus to now operate as an Oppo sub-brand, the company recently confirmed the imminent return of this smartphone family. While a Realme 17T 5G has already made its first concrete appearance, the outlines of the upcoming Realme 17 Pro are now taking shape as well. On the menu for this new generation: what promises to be record-breaking battery life, a major interface change, and an unexpected compromise compared to the Realme 16 Pro officially launched in January 2026.

A colossal 10,000 mAh battery in the spotlight

The main selling point of this Realme 17 Pro undoubtedly lies under the hood. The phone is said to pack a massive 10,000 mAh battery, crossing a milestone that remains rare on the market. That would make it the manufacturer’s second device to feature a cell of such capacity, right after the Realme P4 Power. It marks a dramatic leap over the Realme 16 Pro, even though the latter already stood out earlier this year with a generous 7,000 mAh battery paired with 80W fast charging. For now, however, the charging wattage of this new 10,000 mAh unit remains unknown.

As a trade-off, Realme appears to be scaling back its camera ambitions on this variant. Whereas the Realme 16 Pro relied on a 200 MP main sensor backed by an 8 MP ultrawide, the Realme 17 Pro would step back to a more modest setup built around a 50 MP main module and an 8 MP ultrawide. Up front, the selfie camera would support 4K video recording at 30 frames per second — the Realme 16 Pro already offered 4K — though uncertainty still surrounds its exact resolution: 32 MP or 50 MP, compared to 50 MP on last January’s model.

1.5K display, Dimensity 7300, and the switch to ColorOS 17

On the display front, the Realme 17 Pro is expected to adopt a 1.5K AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, housing an in-display fingerprint reader. Here again, there is a slight step back in refresh rate compared to the Realme 16 Pro and its flat 6.78-inch 144Hz AMOLED screen. In terms of durability, the handset would retain a very sturdy build rated IP68 and IP69 for dust and water resistance, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, which combined IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings.

Under the chassis, continuity prevails with the integration of the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip. Although the Realme 16 Pro carried the “Dimensity 7300 Max” label, the disappearance of that suffix does not reflect any step backward, as both names actually refer to the same technical foundation. The real break with the past is on the software side: out goes Realme UI 7 running on Android 16. In the wake of its integration under Oppo’s umbrella, the brand is leaving behind its former in-house interface for its new devices. As a result, the Realme 17 Pro should arrive directly with ColorOS 17 based on Android 17.

A pronounced gap with the Realme 17 Pro+ and an evolving portfolio

Above all, this repositioning sheds light on the segmentation strategy for the upcoming range. Toning down the Pro model’s camera hardware would indeed leave the full spotlight to the Realme 17 Pro+, a higher-tier version whose release would reportedly be reserved for international markets. While both devices would share a 1.5K display resolution, this “Plus” edition would line up far more ambitious hardware: a flat 6.78-inch OLED screen, a 200 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide, and a 50 MP periscope telephoto lens, all potentially powered by a faster processor than that of the Realme 17 Pro.

No launch date has been set yet for this Realme 17 series, even though the announced revival of the numbered models points toward an unveiling in the near future. Beyond this refresh, the manufacturer is also reportedly considering reviving its Neo-branded smartphones just below the ultra-high-end segment, while a potential return of the GT series remains, at this stage, shrouded in uncertainty.
