Honor 500: Snapdragon 8 Chips and a Massive Battery

Fresh details have just leaked about Honor’s upcoming 500 series. An Honor smartphone (model MEY-AN00) has been spotted on Geekbench. Many assumed it was the Honor 500 Pro. New posts on Weibo, however, including one from an Honor engineer, claim it is actually the standard model.

That detail matters. It suggests Honor has decided to move the entire 500 series upmarket.

Snapdragon 8 chips across the board

According to the leaker, the standard Honor 500 is said to run the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. The Honor 500 Pro, meanwhile, is tipped to carry the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

An Honor engineer has even added weight to those rumours. He stated that the processor in the standard model (Honor 500) would be “significantly more powerful than the one in the rival Pro” — a reference to the Oppo Reno 15 Pro.

A record-breaking 8000 mAh battery

The second surprise in this leak concerns the battery. The standard Honor 500 reportedly has a capacity that “reaches the 8000 range”, pointing to a huge 8000 mAh battery.

It is not yet clear whether the Pro model will get the same cell. The leak does suggest, though, that the whole line-up could finally support wireless charging. It is also said to bring full water resistance, most likely an IP68/69 rating.

200MP camera and 1.5K display

The rest of the rumours are firming up too. Both models are said to share a flat 6.5-inch OLED display (1.5K, 120Hz). 100W wired charging is reportedly part of the package as well.
