Redmi Note 17 Pro Max: The Biggest Battery Ever in a Xiaomi!

📌 Update, 28 August 2026: Xiaomi has made the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max official at its Japanese launch. Contrary to the early rumours pointing to a 200 MP sensor and a Dimensity chip, the handset carries a 50 MP OIS main camera and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 processor. As for battery life, while the Japanese version introduces a record-breaking 10,000 mAh cell, the international spec sheet passed on by our suppliers lists 9,210 mAh. All the verified details are below.

The brand had never offered a “Pro Max” variant in its long-running line-up, but Xiaomi is shaking up its own hierarchy with the first ever Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. Never released on the Chinese market, this model was designed as an international exclusive intended to set a new benchmark for battery life and durability.

Battery: 9,210 mAh on our version, not 10,000

This is the phone’s headline argument, and it is also where the official messaging has contradicted itself. At the Japanese launch, Xiaomi spoke of a 10,000 mAh battery — a symbolic milestone the brand had never crossed, and a figure widely repeated since.

The official international spec sheet says something else: 9,210 mAh. The manufacturer spells it out in black and white in a footnote, as typical capacity. That is therefore the figure that applies to the handsets sold in Europe.

It isn’t the first time in this family: the battery of the Redmi Note 17 Pro went from 9,000 mAh in China to 8,340 on the international version. Two models, two downward adjustments once they left their home market.

The fact that 9,210 mAh remains huge doesn’t change anything: better to know before you buy than when you open the box.

In both configurations, the silicon-carbon cell keeps more than 80% of its capacity after 1,600 cycles (roughly 6 years of daily use). It is paired with 100 W wired fast charging that restores a full day of battery life in 20 minutes, plus 27 W reverse charging to power other devices.

Two major corrections: 50 MP sensor and Snapdragon 6 Gen 5

The official reveal sets the record straight on two assumptions that came out of the initial leaks:

• A 50 MP camera sensor: The device does not carry a 200 MP sensor as the first whispers suggested, but a 50 MP main module with OIS optical stabilisation (the wording is engraved directly on the camera housing), backed by an 8 MP ultra-wide and a 32 MP selfie camera.
• The Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 processor: The phone drops Dimensity chips in favour of this 4 nm platform, optimised for efficiency and for the smart features of HyperOS 3 (offline translation and real-time voice transcription).

UFS 4.0 performance, and a warning about the 128 GB version

The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max takes a technological leap by adopting the ultra-fast UFS 4.0 storage standard on its 256 GB and 512 GB variants (with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM, virtually expandable by a further 16 GB).

One thing to watch: the entry-level 128 GB version makes do with UFS 2.1 memory, a far slower standard than the UFS 3.1 found in the Pro model. To get the full responsiveness of this phone, stick to the 256 GB or 512 GB models.

“Redmi Titan” structure, underwater mode and photochromic finish

To protect all that hardware, the device uses the reinforced Redmi Titan Structure design:

• Triple IP66, IP68 and IP68 rating: Withstands high-pressure water jets and immersion at 2 metres for 72 hours, validated by TÜV SÜD.
• Resistance to 3-metre drops: Certified by the independent body SGS.
• Underwater photo mode: A dedicated interface for taking shots below the surface.

The display is a 6.83-inch 1.5K OLED panel (120 Hz, 3,500 nits peak) certified flicker-free by TÜV Rheinland.

The phone weighs 229.5 g (measuring 163.44 × 78.27 × 8.6 mm) and comes in four colours — black, green, purple and Cloud Blush, the latter being photochromic: it shifts from white to an orange-pink tone under sunlight, and it is also the slimmest of the bunch at 8.57 mm.

At its Japanese launch, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is priced at ¥79,980 (around $502) for the 8/256 GB version and ¥99,980 (around $628) for the 8/512 GB version, with a ¥10,000 launch discount running until 14 October.
